14.5mm engineered European Oak is our most popular thickness, and it is the one most Melbourne homeowners land on once they have compared the options. It gives you a genuine oak surface, a substrate stable enough for a concrete slab, and a price that sits well below 20mm boards without feeling like a compromise underfoot.
What you are buying
Each board is a real European Oak wear layer bonded over a multi-ply substrate, finished in the factory with a UV-cured polyurethane coating. Because the coating is cured under UV light rather than air-dried on site, it is harder than anything that can be applied after installation — and there is no curing period during which you have to stay off the floor.
The colours
The 14.5mm range covers our Noble Collection, Grand Oak and Coastline colours. That spans pale, almost-white boards like Arctic and Scandi Oak, natural mid-oaks such as Danish Oak, Limed Oak and Parisian Oak, warm browns including Havana, Morrocan and Camelot, and deep tones like Black Opal. The Coastline colours — Portsea, Noosa, Byron, Torquay, Sorento, Broome and others — are lighter, softer and lean coastal rather than formal.
Installation
14.5mm can be direct-stuck to a prepared slab or floated over acoustic underlay. In apartments we almost always float it, because strata acoustic requirements are easier to satisfy that way. We test slab moisture before quoting and level where required. The range is compatible with underfloor heating.
Living with a 14.5mm oak floor
Dry mop regularly, damp mop with a pH-neutral cleaner, keep felt pads under furniture, and skip the steam mop. Treated that way, the coating will last many years before a light recoat is worth considering.
