Grand Oak
Grand Oak is the collection we point people to when they want a European Oak floor with genuine character rather than a uniform, catalogue-perfect surface. The boards are wider and longer than a standard engineered plank, the grading allows knots, medullary rays and colour movement to show, and the finishes lean towards matte and lightly wire-brushed rather than glossy.
Every board is engineered: a genuine European Oak wear layer bonded over a multi-ply substrate. That construction is what lets Grand Oak run through a whole house without the cupping and gapping you get from solid timber when Melbourne shifts from a wet winter to a dry, heated summer.
The range
Grand Oak spans a deliberately wide tonal range. At the pale end sit Ghost White, Arctic and White Smoked. Through the middle you have Natural Oak, Morrocan, Havana and Canyon. At the dark end, Black Forest, Black Opal, Trio Smoked and Aged Carbonised give you close to a near-black floor without losing the grain. Several colours are also available in herringbone and chevron, so you can carry one tone across different formats in the same house.
Thicknesses and formats
Grand Oak is stocked in 14.5mm and 20mm, in straight plank, herringbone and chevron. The 20mm boards carry a thicker wear layer, which means the floor can be sanded and recoated later in its life rather than replaced — worth considering if you plan to stay in the house long term.
Installation
Depending on the subfloor, Grand Oak can be direct-stuck or installed as a floating floor over acoustic underlay. Herringbone and chevron are always set out from a centre line and dry-laid first; getting that wrong is expensive to fix. All formats are compatible with underfloor heating when commissioned correctly.
